Meet Shannon Teague

Quick snapshot about me: I built a remote recruitment company from the ground up, leading a team of 80 amazing people. I then pivoted that expertise into online courses and two published books. I teach small business owners how to master the art of online hiring, create smooth onboarding processes, and develop killer operational systems that vibe with their company culture.

The goal? Get your dream team onboard and give yourself the freedom to actually enjoy running your remote business without being glued to your screen 24/7. Most business owners new to hiring don’t realise that hiring the right person is just the tip of the iceberg. You’ve got to have your onboarding and operational game strong to really let your team thrive. That way, you can step back and focus on what truly matters to you and your business.

My flagship course, Remote Hiring Made Easy Academy, has been developed for this purpose, it’s a complete remote hiring, onboarding and ops roadmap, even incorporating AI and done for you systems to streamline the entire process.

What's the story behind making the course?

I founded a remote recruitment agency from scratch and led an exceptional team of 80 professionals. We became the top supplier in our sector across the UK, specializing in the 5-star hotel industry. After eight years of successful operations, the impact of COVID-19 forced me to make the difficult decision to close the business.

However, I then shifted gears and authored two books, subsequently launching a series of digital courses, my flagship course is called Remote Hiring Made Easy Academy. You know the saying, “Every cloud has a silver lining”? That’s pretty much my mantra. I’ve always had a passion for teaching and helping small businesses overcome challenges. Going fully remote with no time zone restrictions become my ultimate goal.

My recruitment business offered a load of flexibility and I started it to be fully remote. The problem was that I was remote, but my clients weren’t, and the whole “anchored to one location” thing doesn’t sit well with me.

Now, I’ve got a business that’s way more in sync with who I am at my core and what I preach—freedom and adventure, all the way! Don’t get me wrong, my previous business gave me the freedom to globe-trot, live in different corners of the world, and still run a killer agency in the UK, I have been fully remote sonce 2014 and I will always be grateful for that business. But it had its limits due to the time zone thing. Plus, let’s be real, running a temp agency is intense and the stress of being responsible for so many people is really not a fun.

Before Covid, I had over 80 contractors and a support team of 10. It was a lot! So, fast-forward to now, and it’s like the stars aligned. I’m not saying my digital course business has been a cakewalk—it’s actually one of the toughest things I’ve tackled, writing two books was a walk in the park compared. But it’s scalable in a way my old business could never be. I’m reaching people worldwide and don’t need a ton of moving parts or people to make it work.

Bottom line? I live by the idea that everything will fall into place. You just got to have the patience to understand why things shake out the way they do. If I didn’t have the knowledge of starting and scaling my previous remote run recruitment company, I wouldn’t have the knowledge to teach what I teach in my courses to help other remote small business owners with these really important foundations of their business. Hiring, onboardng and operational set up is everything you want to move away from being a one-man show, which in my opinion is being the employee in your business rather than the CEO.

Employees

I have a team of freelancers, but it’s most definitely part of my goals to have a fully operational team as the budget allows. I am still getting off the ground. I’m for a team 100% the way, because it’s the only way to truly scale.

Which pricing strategy do you use?

One-time payment

What's your marketing strategy

Content, ads, getting featured on podcasts, social media, Youtube.

Ads are by far the most successful to date. The rest take a long long time to build an audience that convert. Ads are where I spend most of my time learning and mastering.

Lesson and advice for other course creators, or people who'd like to create a profitable course in the near future?

Get your messaging right. It’s absolutely everything!

Without understanding how to communicate to your audience you will not succeed, it’s as simple as that. Talk to people, do market research, give free coaching sessions to draw information, and understand how your target audience thinks and talks. Learn how to develop funnels and find a funnel that works for you.

Don’t get distracted by all the noise, there is A LOT!! It leads to constantly changing strategies which won’t create success. I have been a victim of this.
